Exam Results
Our pupils regularly perform well in national examinations. An overview of the GCSE examination results is available for you to view by clicking on the following link Summary of exam results
In summer 2007, 73% of our young people achieved 5A* - C, a percentage that equalled last year’s best ever GCSE results. 22% of the grades achieved were at A* / confirming our place in the top 500 state schools in The Times and the Daily Mail, a position we shared with six other Cambridgeshire schools.
Many departments’ results were stunning. It is difficult to single any out; for example, if 90% of the pupils who took a subject gained C or above, you could assume that that result had been exceptional, where a subject in which only 60% of the pupils who sat the examination had not performed as well. In truth, the raw percentages are only relevant in the context of the pupils who took the examinations.
There were some outstanding individual performances at GCSE, as there are most years. Claudia Cope came top in the country in RE, gaining 100% in both of her papers, an unheard of result in this subject; Rachel Telfer, with no native-speaking background, came in the top 5 nationally for German; Shawn Cohen came in the top 5 nationally for French; Lukas Scholtes and Yannis Remm, both in Year 9, came in the top 5 nationally for German; Jeanne Segonds-Pichon, now in Year 10, came in the top 5 nationally for French. It is very easy to assume that pupils who have a native speaking background will find it easy to achieve to a high level at GCSE in Languages – not so. Not only that, a significant number of bilingual young people take GCSE language examinations. The achievements of our pupils in gaining top 5 places is remarkable.
The core subjects, English, Maths and Science, all had very good results not only at GCSE but also particularly at KS3, where Year 9 performed exceptionally well and way above the targets we had set them based on their previous performance. 88% of our Year 9 pupils gained a Level 5 or above in English and Maths and 85% in Science.
